Thì hiện tại đơn (Simple Present Tense) dùng để diễn tả một thói quen, một sự thật hiển nhiên, hoặc một hành động xảy ra thường xuyên.  Cách dùng và cấu trúc phụ thuộc vào chủ ngữ.

**I. Cấu trúc:**

* **Khẳng định:**

    * **Với động từ thường:**  Chủ ngữ + V(s/es) + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ.

        * *V(s/es)* là động từ thêm "-s" hoặc "-es" ở ngôi thứ ba số ít (he, she, it).  Động từ thêm "-es" khi tận cùng là -o, -s, -sh, -ch, -x, -z.

        * Ví dụ:
            * I **eat** rice every day. (Tôi ăn cơm mỗi ngày.)
            * He **plays** football. (Anh ấy chơi bóng đá.)
            * She **watches** TV. (Cô ấy xem TV.)
            * It **goes** fast. (Nó đi nhanh.)
            * The cat **sits** on the mat. (Con mèo ngồi trên thảm.)

    * **Với động từ to be:** Chủ ngữ + am/is/are + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ.

        * I **am** a student. (Tôi là một học sinh.)
        * He/She/It **is** tall. (Anh ấy/Cô ấy/Nó cao.)
        * We/You/They **are** happy. (Chúng tôi/Các bạn/Họ hạnh phúc.)

* **Phủ định:**

    * **Với động từ thường:** Chủ ngữ + do/does + not + V(nguyên mẫu) + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ.

        * I/You/We/They **do not** (don't) **eat** meat. (Tôi/Bạn/Chúng tôi/Họ không ăn thịt.)
        * He/She/It **does not** (doesn't) **play** the piano. (Anh ấy/Cô ấy/Nó không chơi đàn piano.)

    * **Với động từ to be:** Chủ ngữ + am/is/are + not + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ.

        * I **am not** a doctor. (Tôi không phải là bác sĩ.)
        * He/She/It **is not** (isn't)  lazy. (Anh ấy/Cô ấy/Nó không lười biếng.)
        * We/You/They **are not** (aren't)  sad. (Chúng tôi/Các bạn/Họ không buồn.)

* **Nghi vấn:**

    * **Với động từ thường:** Do/Does + chủ ngữ + V(nguyên mẫu) + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ?

        * **Do** you **like** coffee? (Bạn có thích cà phê không?)
        * **Does** she **work** here? (Cô ấy có làm việc ở đây không?)

    * **Với động từ to be:** Am/Is/Are + chủ ngữ + tân ngữ/phụ ngữ?

        * **Am** I right? (Tôi có đúng không?)
        * **Is** he a teacher? (Anh ấy có phải là giáo viên không?)
        * **Are** they students? (Họ có phải là học sinh không?)

**II.  Một số điểm cần lưu ý:**

* **Trạng từ chỉ tần suất:**  (always, usually, often, sometimes, seldom, rarely, never) thường đứng trước động từ thường nhưng sau động từ "to be".
* **Câu hỏi Yes/No:**  Câu trả lời ngắn gọn dùng trợ động từ. Ví dụ:  "Do you like pizza?" - "Yes, I do." / "No, I don't."
* **Câu hỏi Wh-question:**  Câu hỏi bắt đầu bằng từ để hỏi (what, where, when, who, why, how...)

**III. Ví dụ tổng hợp:**

* **Khẳng định:**  She sings beautifully. (Cô ấy hát rất hay.)
* **Phủ định:** They don't go to school on Sundays. (Họ không đi học vào Chủ nhật.)
* **Nghi vấn:** Does he speak English? (Anh ấy có nói tiếng Anh không?)
* **Câu hỏi Wh-question:** Where do you live? (Bạn sống ở đâu?)

Hiểu rõ cấu trúc và cách dùng sẽ giúp bạn sử dụng thì hiện tại đơn một cách chính xác.  Hãy luyện tập nhiều để làm quen với cấu trúc và ghi nhớ các động từ thêm "-s" hoặc "-es".
